First I want to start by saying we don't get much rain here in Southern California; second, I should have been more prepared to capture because who knows when the next time will be. Since it was raining today I wanted to try and capture the rain splattering across the pool. While heavier rain may have made it easier, I definitely need to read up and improve my technique in doing this. For these shots today I played around with different apertures and shutter speeds while trying to offset the brightness balance using iso. I like the ones I have selected but am not thrilled at how any came out. I imagined these shots looking much crisper and hoped to catch the rain hitting the water better.
In the back of this first one you can see the rain drop bouncing back up as it hits the water, I had hoped to capture this close up and focused. I think I just got lucky it was in the background. The ripples it creates are amazing. Some of my desire to captures these moments is my interest scientifically as one been trained in fluid dynamics extensively. (n.b. I made all the pictures larger than normal to see the rain drop effects)
In the center of this picture you can see those ripples but not the bouncing rain drop.
This last picture contains many rippled drops.
