Day 3

Today I had settled on taking pictures at a fruit stand, trying to show the variety and selection.  I wasn't sure how I would do it, but I went anyway.  I ended up parking right in front of a lemon tree and changed courses to taking pictures of the lemons.  I found a nice seat on a log with the branch between me and the sun.

Some notes on my (hopefully) improving camera skills and terminology (skip this paragraph if you don't like technical deals/just want to see pictures).  Instead of just taking pictures of the lemons I chose to mess around with the aperture.  I choose to go with a high f# (f14 I think).  I did not go into full manual mode with the camera so as I closed the aperture, the shutter speed automatically lengthened by some algorithm in the camera to keep the total light for the picture the same.  If you are unfamiliar with aperture/shutter speed here is a basic analogy: think if you have a dime sized opening, the shutter speed is .1 seconds but a quarter size opening is .05 seconds.  Choosing the higher aperture helps to offset the brightness of the sun directly behind the fruit.

I took 5 or 6 photos and selected 3 to put down below.  The first one almost yields a silhouette because the sun's brightness, it was my first attempt and helped me adjust my settings for the other photos.

In this photo, I choose to capture the sun using the same settings I had for the fruit.  This is my favorite photo of the day.  It almost appears as though the sun popped up in nighttime.  The rays from the sun are beautiful as well.

In the final photo I think I captured the vibrant colors of the branch and ripening lemons.  The sun directly behind the branch helps to frame the photo and focus the eye on the lemons.

*Note: In my desire to snap pictures I may have misidentified unripened lemons as unripened oranges.  To maintain my original post I will leave as is.
